Former Eagle plays on college baseball's grandest stage
06/18/09

Corey Stevens of Clinton, a former Hinds Community College baseball standout, recently completed his collegiate playing career by playing on college baseball's grandest stage in Omaha, Neb.

Stevens was an outfielder and cleanup hitter for the University of Southern Mississippi Golden Eagles, who completed a magical season in the 2009 College World Series on Tuesday. Stevens capped off an outstanding career by hitting .320 with 15 doubles, eight home runs and 60 RBI in his senior season.

The Golden Eagles finished 40-26 on the season in what proved to be head coach Corky Palmer's final season.

Stevens transferred to the Hattiesburg school after two tremendous seasons with the Hinds Eagles. As a freshman in 2006, Stevens hit .370 with four home runs to lead the Eagles. The two-time Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges (MACJC) All-State honoree also led Hinds in hitting as a sophomore in 2007, batting .420 with three home runs.
