The members of the Hinds Community College football program will finally get a break from all of the travel this Thursday night, as the Eagles will play at Joe Renfroe Stadium for the first time in the 2009 season.
The first home game will also mark a first of sorts for broadcasting Hinds games online. All four home dates will be streamed live, via www.hindsccsports.com and will be broadcast by Sportstalk radio host and Hinds alum Jay White. Just click on “watch live” on the Hinds athletics home page and the video will appear, and will also be archived so that fans may view again.
Hinds (1-1) will welcome South division rival East Central Community College (also 1-1) to Raymond for a 6:30 p.m. kickoff.
Hinds won the season opener, 16-7, in overtime versus Northeast Community College, but faltered last week against Northwest Community College, getting shutout, 23-0, in Senatobia.
East Central lost their season opener, 32-31, to Coahoma Community College, but came back in week two to defeat Holmes Community College, 27-24.
Hinds is once again led by a strong defense, as Bobby McGowan of Utica, a sophomore linebacker (18 solo tackles), and David Lindsey of Flowood, a sophomore defensive back (17 solo tackles), are 1-2 in the state in tackles.
East Central presents a strong running attack, as Derrick Cade, a sophomore running back, has rushed for 252 yards and one touchdown on 40 carries to date.
Both teams will look to get South division play started on the right note, and Hinds officials are expecting a capacity crowd.
