Utica - Mark Wilkerson of Jackson came up with a steal and found Erik Burks of Edwards for the game–winning layup with 1.2 seconds to go to give Hinds an 81-79 victory over the Jones County Junior College men on Monday night.
Jones led 79-74, but Hinds scored seven unanswered points in the final 34.7 seconds to come from behind and defeat the Bobcats. The win now moves Hinds, ranked No. 19 in the latest National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) poll, to 14-2 overall and 4-0 in South division play.
Kenneth Mullin of Oxford led Hinds with 16 points on Monday night. Chris Wallace, Wilkerson and Jarrell Wilson, all of Jackson, each finished with 15 points on the evening.
The Bulldogs had their 13-game winning streak snapped on Saturday afternoon in Clarksdale, as Coahoma Community College defeated Hinds, 69-58. Wilkerson led the way for Hinds with 13 points.
On Thursday, Jan. 14, Hinds picked up a key South division road win over East Central Community College, 83-62. Wallace had another big night, leading the offensive charge with 21 points.
Hinds will not have to wait long before returning to the court, as the Bulldogs travel to Co-Lin Community College tonight. Game time is set for 8 p.m. in Wesson.
