The Hinds men’s soccer team traveled to Perkinston on Saturday to face the Gulf Coast Community College Bulldogs, and came away on the short end of the stick, dropping the contest, 1-0.
Hinds and Gulf Coast have met in the conference finals in each of the past two seasons, and Hinds has come away with the conference championship both seasons. This time, however, Gulf Coast would come out on top with a goal at the twenty minute mark.
The Eagles were able to produce quality scoring chances, but Gulf Coast made multiple goal line saves during the match.
“We have a strong team this year with a lot of good players,” said Hinds coach Doug Williams. “The truth is that we have yet to play a 90 minute game with 100% effort and determination.
Williams aims to get his team back on track as the season progresses. “We will train harder and instill a greater sense of purpose in this team.”
Hinds will travel to Meridian today before opening division play against Northwest at home on Friday.
