Eagles soccer drops close one on the road
09/09/09

The Eagles of Hinds Community College traveled to face the Eagles of Meridian Community College in a non-division men’s soccer matchup on Tuesday night. It was the Eagles of Meridian who came away victorious in the always highly-contested battle, 3-2.

Meridian was able to get an early advantage, scoring two goals early in the first half on miscues from the Hinds back line. Hinds battled back to even the score at halftime, 2-2, with goals from Parker Ware of Brandon and Dillon Walker of Pearl. Walker’s goal came from a well played assist from Blanks Baldwin of Pearl.

The second half was a bit sluggish for Hinds, as they produced fewer scoring chances and gave up the game-winning goal on a powerless shot from 30 yards out.

“I am very disappointed with the result tonight,” said Hinds coach Doug Williams. “We have a strong group of players who are not getting the job done when it counts.”

“When faced with game-winning opportunities on defense and in attack, we are failing to produce the proper results. We must improve quickly and win our division games starting with Northwest at home on Friday.”

Game time is set for 7 p.m. Friday night, which will follow the women’s contest at 5 p.m. Both games will be played at Tom Shepherd Field in Raymond.
