On Friday evening, the Hinds men’s soccer team took on the Northwest Mississippi Community College Rangers in the first North division game of the season for each team. The Eagles came away the winners in the contest, beating the Rangers by a 2-1 score.
Hinds (2-3) got on the scoreboard first on a Corey Lange (Brandon) goal that was received by a cross from Nathan Harrell (Clinton). The Hinds defense held Northwest scoreless in the first half to take a 1-0 lead into halftime.
The second half saw Hinds produce even more scoring chances, as Scott Pulliam (Pearl) scored on a pass from Blanks Baldwin (Pearl) to lead the Eagles to a 2-0 lead. Northwest would convert a penalty kick in the last few minutes of the game to make the final score 2-1.
“The guys worked hard tonight and produced a good win,” said Hinds coach Doug Williams. “We will continue to work hard in training and figure out how to score more goals. This team is starting establish some character in the way they play.”
Hinds will take on East Mississippi Community College next. The Eagles and Lady Eagles will travel to Scooba on Tuesday, with the ladies starting at 2 p.m.
