The Hinds Community College men’s soccer team beat the Itawamba Community College Indians in home play Friday night (Sept. 25) in a key division matchup.
The Eagles (6-3 overall, 4-0 in the North) were able to produce quality scoring chances in the first half, as Austin Cole of Brandon scored on a pass from Tucker Hood of Brandon. Later in the first half Corey Lange of Brandon scored on a rebound from a Hinds shot.
The score at halftime was 2-0 in favor of Hinds, as the Eagles limited Itawamba to very few scoring chances in the first half.
The second half saw Cole score on a penalty kick in the first five minutes of the half. Dillon Walker of Pearl scored on a pass from Marcelo Lima of Fortaleza, Brazil, and Walker returned the favor, assisting Lima for the game’s final goal.
John Wixson of Pearl was rock-solid in the goal for Hinds, as he helped to maintain the shutout.
“This win puts us in first place in the division,” said Hinds coach Doug Williams. “It was good to see the team finish its chances.”
Hinds will hit the road Tuesday, traveling to Hanceville, Ala., to take on Wallace State Community College in a 3:30 p.m. matchup.
