Five men’s soccer players at Hinds Community College were recently rewarded for their play on the field, as one team member earned the prestigious honor of being named to the All-Region team, while four others were named to the All-State team.
Dillon Walker of Pearl, a freshman forward, was the lone All-Region recipient. He tied for the team lead in scoring in his first year in Raymond, as he scored 11 goals and collected five assists for a total of 27 points.
The four All-State members were Austin Cole of Brandon, a sophomore back; Brian Fitzgerald of Vicksburg, a freshman back; Tucker Hood of Brandon, a sophomore midfielder; and Marcelo Lima of Fortaleza, Brazil, a sophomore forward.
Cole finished the 2009 season with six goals and provided the Eagles with strong play on both sides of the ball.
Fitzgerald was able to provide two assists on the year, and his ability to help shut down the opponents offense proved invaluable for the Hinds defense.
Hood added three goals and two assists to the offense, finishing with eight points in his sophomore season to finish in the top five in team scoring.
Lima tied Walker in scoring with 27 points, as he stood out offensively with nine goals and nine assists to pace the Eagles all season.
