Hinds Athletics promotes Gust to top tennis post
08/13/09

Tim Gust of Raymond, formerly an assistant coach with the Hinds Community College tennis program, has been named head coach of the men's and women's tennis programs at Hinds.

Gust spent the previous two seasons as an assistant coach while also serving as a tennis professional and Hinds Wellness Center fitness trainer.

Gust attended the former Memphis State University, where he played collegiate tennis. He later played briefly on the Pro Penn Tour. The Callaway High School graduate also won the state tournament in the 4.0 doubles division in Ridgeland in 2008.

"It's always an honor to work with young people as they develop in the classroom and on the tennis court," said Gust, when asked about the opportunity of becoming the head man.

Although the spring season is months off, Gust is looking forward to the incoming talent in the program. "We are a young team with only two returners on the women's side and three on the men's side, however, we look stronger from top to bottom," Gust said.

The Eagles and Lady Eagles will be participating in several matches and scrimmages throughout the fall.
