Lady Eagles soccer picks up first win
09/15/09

The Hinds Community College women’s soccer team got in the win column for the first time in the 2009 season on Friday, defeating Northwest Community College, 4-0. The win was also the first in the North division for the Lady Eagles, who moved to 1-5.

The Lady Eagles led 1-0 at intermission, as Jessie Dotson (Byram) provided the half’s lone goal. Hinds added three goals in the second half to clinch the win. Becca Steen (Brandon), Melanie Webb (Brandon) and Meridith Wise (Canton) all punched in goals for the Lady Eagles in the second half.

Dotson and Steen also provided assists in the game. Lindsay Gilmore and Lauren Sipes (both of Pearl) split time in the goal to secure the shutout.

“I am proud of the turnaround these girls have made,” said Hinds coach Kori Babb.  “We have worked extremely hard to get to this point and we are focused on climbing this mountain one game at a time.”
