The Hinds Community College women’s soccer program held its annual alumni game on Saturday evening, and the current edition of the Lady Eagles showed no mercy over the program’s alumni, winning by a 12-3 count.
The present-day Lady Eagles led 5-0 at the half, and got goals from four contributors. Becca Steen of Brandon (four goals), Shelley Berry of Brandon (three goals), Brittany Griggs of Clinton (three goals) and Shelley Berry of Brandon (two goals) accounted for all of the scoring.
Stephanie Little (2003-2004) scored two goals for the alumni, with Chelsae Kelly (2008) adding the additional goal.
Lindsay Gilmore of Pearl played in the goal during the first half and left the game scoreless. Lauren Sipes of Pearl played in the goal during the second half and was faced with two one-on-one situations and a hard shot from the corner that lofted over her head.
“I am proud of the energy and enthusiasm that the girls displayed on the field,” said Hinds coach Kori Babb.
Babb was also very appreciative of the game’s turnout. “I would also like to thank the alumni for coming out and showing their support for the Lady Eagles,” said Babb. “We had between 15 and 20 alumni show up for the game, and I hope to see them back next year for a rematch.”
