The Lady Eagles soccer team moved one step closer to hosting the upcoming Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges (MACJC) state tournament on Monday by defeating North division rival East Miss. Community College, 4-0. The win helped Hinds remain undefeated in division play with a 5-0 record.
The halftime score was 2-0 behind goals from Shelly Berry of Brandon and Jennifer Hill of Clinton. Berry’s goal came on a corner kick delivered by Brittany Griggs of Clinton, while Hill scored off a cross from Rachel Webb of Brandon.
Becca Steen and Webb, both of Brandon, added two goals in the second half to clinch the victory. Steen scored on a pass from Hill, and Webb was able to do things herself, scoring on a corner kick.
“East Miss. played very aggressive and I am proud of the demeanor that these girls showed throughout the entire game,” said Hinds coach Kori Babb.
Hinds will now travel to Tupelo today to face Itawamba Community College in the final regular season game of 2009. If the Lady Eagles defeat Itawamba or lose by less than three goals due to the scoring margin rule, Hinds will host the MACJC state tournament this weekend. Hinds defeated Itawamba, 4-1, in the previous matchup on September 25.
