Anthony inks with Troy Trojans

QB Deon Anthony (12)

Sophomore quarterback Deon Anthony had a breakout season in 2011.  Used primarily as a wide receiver in 2010, Anthony had a lot to prove in 2011 while taking over at QB for the Eagles.  Having guided the Eagles to their first playoff berth since 2004, Anthony now will prove he can play QB on the next level as a member of the Troy University Trojans, a member of the highly competitive Sun Belt Conference.

In 2011, Anthony finished 126-231 with 2,202 yards passing to go along with 18 touchdowns and only eight picks, along with gaining 461 yards on the ground on 110 carries and nine touchdowns.  He was named to the Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges (MACJC) All-State second team.

Anthony was selected as the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Offensive Player of the Week after a stellar performance against Pearl River Oct. 22 in which hecompleted 14 of 18 pass attempts for 415 yards and four touchdowns. He also rushed eight times for 19 yards and a touchdown.

The 415 yards passing for Anthony broke a school record for most passing yards in a single game. The previous record was 401 yards, set by former Eagles QB Keats Baldwin versus Pearl River in 2004.  Anthony's name now appears in four different "top-five" spots in the Hinds football record book.

In 2011, the Eagles averaged 178 yards on the ground and 233 yards through the air for a combined 411 yards per game.

Hinds, ranked 15th in the final NJCAA poll, had three members named to the All-Region team, six members named to the All-State first team, seven members named to the All-State second team and eight members named to the Honorable Mention All-State team.
