Women’s Basketball Season Preview: Hinds Women's Basketball Begins First Season Under Head Coach Brandon Taylor

UTICA, Miss. – Brandon Taylor was named the Head Coach of the Hinds Community College Women's program back in June and will open his first season as a Head Coach on Friday, November 1, 2024. 

Coach Taylor's vision of the  2024-25 season, "We want to have an emphasis on how we really defend and rebound. We want to play with pace and try to generate easy baskets in the open floor. If we can do that and work together and share the ball to get a quality shot. We also want to get extra possessions by crashing the offensive boards."

Hinds will open the season against rivals Holmes Community College Lady Bulldogs on Friday at 12PM. The Lady Bulldogs will play in 16 non-conference games including a classic in Texas and a classic in Summit. Hinds last 14 games of the regular season will be conference games.

The Lady Bulldogs will rely heavily on the returner from last year: Jaydia Morris (Madison), Lamaria Jones (Huntsville, Ala.), Zyer Smith (Vicksburg), Brooklyn Harris (Lake), and Jaliah Pree (Fayette).

Hinds also went out and got a few transfers including Myan Bartholemy (Brandon), Mayla Harbor (Ferriday, La.), and Jasi Jenkins (Houma, La.). 

To round out the Lady Bulldogs will be freshmen Arianna Crimm (Pass Christian), Rodrianna Hall (Vicksburg), Amiah Simpkins (D'Iberville), Judea hastings (Brandon), Hannah Moore (Pearl), Matysha Miller (Raleigh), Makayla Hardy (Monticello), and Gabrielle Corbin (Salisbury, Md.)

Head Coach Brandon Taylor stated, "We have a lot of experience returning on this team. And we will use that to our advantage. We are playing one of the toughest non-conference schedules that Hinds has played in a very long time. With 11 road games scheduled, and 6 of those being scheduled in November. It's going to be a true test before we get into MACCC play. "

The first home game for the Lady Bulldogs will be on Thursday, November 7th against Delgado Community College at 5:30 PM.
