Lady Eagles' walk-off-walk win secures sweep over 9th ranked Pearl River

RAYMOND – Hinds Community College softball continued their success over ranked opponents by recording a sweep over ninth ranked Pearl River Community College Tuesday in Raymond. Game one featured a pitcher's duel, where Kendall Calloway (Madison) came out on top in the 1-0 victory. Sophomore center fielder Ashley Lightcap (Lafayette, LA) secured the 7-6 victory in game two with a walk-off walk in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Game one

Calloway got the Lady Eagles fired up after she strands a leadoff batter at third base in the top of the first inning. Calloway was so dominate in her first collegiate complete game shutout that she only allowed five Wildcats baserunners. The Madison native recorded her eighth win of the year while lowering her ERA on the season to a miniscule 2.29.

Hannah Tauzin (New Iberia, LA) would break open the home half of the first inning with a leadoff hit, proceed to steal second, move to third base on a Macey Everett (Hernando) sacrifice bunt and score on a Sadie Parker (Flowood) single. Lightcap would add to the hit column with a single in the bottom of the fourth. The one run in the first inning was all the run support Calloway would need to solidify the game one upset.

Game two

Game two provided a little more excitement at the plate. The Eagles got off to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the third inning with a Tauzin walk, Everett base hit, and a two-out, two-RBI single by Melina Seiferd (Saucier).

Heading to the bottom of the sixth inning tied at two runs apiece, the Lady Eagles would put together a four-run inning. Kaitlyn Papizan (Madison) would start the inning with a single. Ava Aslam (Madison) would bunt her over to scoring position in the next at-bat. Carli Estis (Olla, LA) would walk before Lightcap picks up an RBI on a single. Both Estis and Lightcap would score on Tauzin's double. Tauzin would immediately score the fourth run on an RBI single by Everett.

After a shaky top of the seventh inning in which the Eagles allowed the Wildcats to tie the game at six, Seiferd would start the bottom half with a reach on error and be pinch-ran for by Franny Clark (Pearl). Papizan would then reach on a bunt base hit before Aslam would sacrifice bunt once again to put runners at second and third base. Estis would then be hit by a pitch to load the bases. Lightcap would put together a lengthy at-bat before taking ball four to secure the 7-6 walk-off-walk and sweep of the Wildcats.

Seiferd would get the start in the circle, going 3.1 innings while allowing two runs, one earned, on five hits and three walks. ShaeLa Lawrence (Leesville, LA) would get the win finishing the final 3.2 innings while giving up four earned runs on six hits.
