Softball Earns Doubleheader Sweep over Mississippi Delta

MOORHEAD, Miss. – The Hinds Community College Softball team earned a doubleheader sweep over Mississippi Delta Community College on Saturday. The Lady Eagles took the first game 6-4 and secured the 8-7 victory over the Trojans in the final game. 
 
GAME ONE
 
In the first game of the doubleheader, the hosts scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning to take a 3-0 advantage early in the contest. Hinds got a run back in the second inning and two runs in the third inning to level the contest at 3-3.
 
The Lady Eagles took the lead in the top of the fourth inning by making the score 4-3. Hinds scored three runs in the fourth and fifth innings to take a 6-2 lead going into the sixth inning. The Lady Trojans got a run back in the sixth to make the score 6-4. After a scoreless seventh inning, the Lady Eagles picked up the 6-4 victory over the Lady Trojans
 
Alexis Moran, Avery Parrott, Melina Seiferd, Sara Long, and Kaitlyn Papizan had multiple hits in the contest. Papizan led the team with two runs scored in the win over Delta.  
 
Riley Myers got the start in the circle for the Lady Eagles and went the distance to earn her fifth win on the season. 
 
GAME TWO
 
In the second game of the doubleheader, the Lady Eagles scored two runs right off the bat in the top of the opening frame. The host got a run back in the bottom of the inning to bring the score to 2-1 after one complete inning. Hinds tacked on a run in the top of the second inning to extend the lead to 3-1, before the Lady Trojans scored five runs in the bottom of the second inning to gain the 6-3 advantage. 
 
The Lady Eagles grabbed two runs in the top of the third inning to close the gap to one run. After a scoreless fourth inning, Hinds posted three runs in the top of the fifth inning to regain the 8-6 lead. The hosts rally fell short in the bottom of the seventh inning as the Lady Eagles secured the 8-7 victory and seal the doubleheader sweep over the Lady Trojans.
 
Sara Long, Kaitlyn Papizan, and River Boultinghouse each had a pair of hits in the contest. Papizan and Boultinghouse each scored three RBI in the 8-7 win over Mississippi Delta. 
 
Melina Seiferd got the start in the circle for the Lady eagle and went 1.2 innings before Kendall Calloway came in relief. Calloway earned the win in the circle and only gave up one earned run in the game and struck out five batters. 
 
UP NEXT
 
The Lady Eagles will return to action on Tuesday, April 18 against the Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College Lady Bulldogs at Rene T. Warren Field in Raymond, MS. First pitch of the doubleheader is set for 3:00 PM.
