RAYMOND, Miss. – The Hinds Community College softball team split their home opener against Baton Rouge CC on Friday taking the first game 7-2 before falling in the second game 4-1 to the visiting Lady Bears. With the split, the Lady Eagles improve to 4-4 overall.
GAME ONE
In the first game of the doubleheader, the Lady Eagles scored first in the bottom of the first inning, scoring two runs to take the 2-0 lead. The visitors cut the deficit in half in the top of the second inning, but Hinds' offense came alive for four runs in the bottom half of the second to bring the score to 6-1.
After a scoreless third inning, Hinds tacked on an additional run to take the 7-1 advantage after four innings complete. Neither team scored in the fifth or sixth inning, but in the top of the seventh the Lady Bears brought in a run. Hinds went on to take game one by a final score of 7-2.
Alexis Moran had three hits in the contest, scored two runs, and added two RBI, while
Andreya Garrett also had three hits.
Taylor Nelson belted a Homerun in her first at bat of the day and registered a couple of RBI in the contest.
Melissa Lopera hit the only triple in the game for the Lady Eagles. In the circle,
Kyleigh Forsyth threw a complete game, faced 26 batters, and struck out four in the 7-2 win.
GAME TWO
In the second game of the doubleheader, Hinds scored the first run of the game in the bottom of the first inning to take an early advantage. The visitors took the 2-1 lead in the top of the fourth inning and added a run in the sixth and seventh to grab the 4-1 victory over the Lady Eagles to split the doubleheader.

Lily Ochodnicky,
Alexis Moran, and
Emily Vines grabbed the only hits in the contest for the Lady Eagles. In the circle,
Emily Vines got the start, went 3.2 innings, and totaled four strikeouts in the loss.
Emily Vicknair came in relief and posted two strikeouts.
UP NEXT
The Lady Eagles will return to action on Thursday, February 22 against #4 Parkland College for a doubleheader at René T. Warren Field. The first pitch of the two-game series is slated to begin at 2 PM.
