RAYMOND, Miss. – The Hinds Community College Softball team opened conference play with a doubleheader against RV East Mississippi CC and grabbed two wins at Rene T. Warren Field this past Saturday. With the win, the Lady Eagles improve to 13-7 overall and 2-0 in conference play.
GAME ONE
The Lady Eagles started strong from the plate as they scored three runs in the top of the first inning to take the early advantage. The visitors even things up in the second and third inning, scored two runs in the second and one run in the third to even the contest at 3 apiece.
Hinds regained the lead in the bottom half of the fourth inning to bring the score to 4-3. After both teams scored in the fifth inning, the Lady Eagles still had the 5-4 advantage. The Lady Eagles' bats exploded in the bottom of the sixth inning as they plated six runs and went on to grab the 11-4 win over East Mississippi CC in game one of the day.
Melissa Lopera and
Sara Long led the Lady Eagles with three hits apiece, while
Taylor Nelson Alexis Moran, and
Lily Ochodnicky grabbed a pair of hits apiece in the win. As a team, Hinds totaled 15 hits, 11 runs, and had a team batting average of .468 in the contest.
Kyleigh Forsyth got the start and the win in the circle for Hinds after going five innings.
Emily Vicknair came in relief and pitched two innings to earn the save.
GAME TWO
In the second game of the day, the Lady Eagles got things started in the bottom of the second inning, scoring two runs to take the early advantage. Hinds' offense continued to shine as they plated three runs in the third and four runs in the fourth to grab the 9-0 run rule victory in five innings.
Melissa Lopera led the Lady Eagles with two homeruns in two plate appearances in the second game. Additionally, she drove in five runs and scored two runs for Lady Eagles.
Sara Long,
Lily Ochodnicky, and
Alexis Moran finished the game with a couple of hits apiece.
Emily Vicknair got the start and went the distance for Hinds in the circle. She posted two strikeouts and did not give up a run in the 9-0 run rule victory.
UP NEXT
Hinds will return to action for their second conference doubleheader of the season on Wednesday, March 13 against #6 Jones College in Ellisvillle. First pitch of the doubleheader is set for 4 PM.
