YOUNGSVILLE, Miss. – The Hinds Community College Softball team picked up three outstanding wins in the Mardi Gras Invitational defeating Kilgore College 9-6, Bossier Parish CC 9-7, and #12 LSU-E 3-2 in the opening weekend.
Game 1: Hinds 9, Kilgore 6
In the top of the first inning, the Lady Eagles strike for three runs on two hits with one of the hits being a two-run homerun from
Allie Reich. Kilgore plated three runs in the bottom half of the inning to even the contest at 3 going into the second inning. Hinds regained the lead thanks to a solo shot from
Anna Leigh Ashley to regain the 4-3 advantage.
After a scoreless third inning,
Lily Ochodnicky sent one over the fence for a 2-run shot to extend the lead to 6-3. In the bottom half of the fourth inning, Kilgore plated three runs to tie things up at 6-6. The Lady Eagles retook the lead on back-to-back doubles by
Anna Leigh Ashley and
Lily Ochodnicky to make the score 8-6 going into the seventh inning.
Melissa Lopera and
Maddie Bruner added an insurance run for the Lady Eagles with a double apiece to bring the score to 9-6 going into the bottom of the seventh inning. The Lady Eagles' defense held strong to claim the 9-6 victory in the season opener.
Lily Ochodnicky led Hinds going 2-for-3 from the plate with one run scored, one homerun, one double, and 4 RBI, while
Anna Leigh Ashley went 2-for-3 from the plate with 2 RBI and a homerun.
Allie Reich also hit her first homerun in an Eagles uniform in the 9-6 win over Kilgore.
Kaylee Chandler went the distance in the circle for the Lady Eagles and struck out three batters.
Game 2: Angelina 7, Hinds 1
Angelina got things started in the top of the first inning scoring two runs to take the early advantage. The score remained the same until the top of the sixth inning when Angelina extended their lead to 4-0. The Lady Eagles plated a run in the bottom of the sixth inning to head into the final inning of play. Angelina kept their foot on the gas scoring three more runs in the seventh to take the 7-1 victory over Hinds.
Maddie Bruner had the only extra base hit for Hinds in the contest.
Olivia Rees and
Anna Leigh Ashley registered a stolen base in the contest.
Emily Vicknair took the loss in the circle for the Lady Eagles and faced 34 batters.
Game 3: Hinds 9, Bossier Parish 7
The Lady Eagles got off to a slow start as BPCC scored seven runs going into the bottom of the fourth inning.
Jalia McDaniel gets it started for Hinds with a couple of RBI from
Allie Reich, an RBI from
Maddie Bruner, and an RBI from
Anna Leigh Ashley to cut into the 7-4 advantage. After a scoreless fifth inning, the Lady Eagles got seven straight base runners on five hits, two walks, and plated five runs to take the 9-7 lead. In the seventh, Vicknair registered two strikeouts to pick up the win in the circle for Hinds. The Lady Eagles went on to claim the 9-7 victory over Bossier Parish.
As a team, the Lady Eagles concluded the contest with 10 hits and nine runs.

Lily Ochodnicky grabbed a triple in the contest, while
Aaliyah Nixon and
Maddie Bruner registered a stolen base.
Emily Vicknair earned the win in the circle for the Lady Eagles and posted two strikeouts.
Game 4: Hinds 3, LSU-Eunice 2
The Lady Bengals scratch across the first run of the contest in the bottom of the first inning. LSU-E grabbed another run in the bottom of the second inning to take the 2-0 lead. After. scoreless third inning, the Lady Eagles grabbed a run in the fourth and fifth to even the contest up at 2-2 going into the sixth inning. Neither team scored a run in the sixth, but
Destiny Crosby scored the game winning run on an infield hit by
Maddie Bruner. Hinds went on to claim the 3-2 victory over #12 ranked LSU-Eunice.
Maddie Bruner went 4-for-4 from the plate and had the game-winning RBI.
Olivia Rees and
Melissa Lopera posted the only XBH for Hinds in the game.
Kaylee Chandler went the distance in the circle for Hinds and only gave up two runs to #12 LSU-E and posted six strikeouts in the win.
The Lady Eagles will return to action on Friday, February 7
th when we travel to Baton Rouge to take on Baton Rouge CC in a double header. First pitch of the doubleheader is set for 1 PM.
