RAYMOND, Miss. – The Hinds Community College Softball team split a doubleheader against #10 ranked Northeast Mississippi CC on Friday evening at Rene T. Warren Field. The Lady Eagles dropped game one by a final score of 5-1 and then responded with a 5-3 victory in the nightcap.
After a 5-1 defeat in game one of the doubleheader, Hinds quickly turned their attention to game two to try and upset the #10 Ranked Tigers of Northeast Mississippi CC.
After two innings of scoreless softball, Madison Bruner got the Lady Eagles on the board with an RBI-groundout to give Hinds the 1-0 advantage in the bottom of the third inning. In the same inning,
Olivia Rees picked up an RBI-single to give the Lady Eagles the 2-0 lead. Rees then came around to score on an error to give Hinds the 3-0 advantage. The Tigers leveled the contest at 3 in the top of the fourth inning.
In the fifth inning,
Jalia McDaniel grabbed a 2-RBI single to give the Lady Eagles the 5-3 cushion going into the sixth inning. Hinds' defense held strong for the rest of the game to earn a #10 ranked victory over Northeast Mississippi CC.
Melissa Lopera led the Lady Eagles with three hits in four plate appearances. The other Lady Eagles to record multiple hits were
Olivia Rees,
Lily Ochodnicky, and
Abby Smith.
Emily Vicknair was fantastic in the circle for the Lady Eagles going the distance and only gave up three runs to a ranked opponent. As a team, Hinds posted 13 hits and did not record an error in the win.
Hinds will return to action on April 8
th against Southwest Mississippi CC for a doubleheader at Rene T. Warren Field. First pitch Is scheduled for 3 PM.
