Hinds Softball Sweeps Spring Break; Moves to 5-1 in MACCC Play

RAYMOND, Miss. - The Hinds Community College Softball team made the most of Spring Break, sweeping two MACCC series to collect four conference wins. Hinds opened the week on the road in Perkinston with a pair of victories over Mississippi Gulf Coast before returning home on Saturday to Rene T. Warren Field and run-ruling Coahoma twice. With the four-game sweep, the Eagles improved to 22-5 overall and 5-1 in MACCC play.

Game 1 vs. Mississippi Gulf Coast
Hinds found itself in an early hole, trailing 2-0 through three innings before Aubrie Carter quickly shifted the momentum. Carter launched a three-run homer in the fourth inning, which was her first of the season and gave the Lady Eagles a 3-2 lead.

Hinds added insurance in the seventh when Carter once again sparked the offense with a leadoff single. A pinch-hit double from Adyson McKnight brought Carter home, and LaKeitha Sampson, who re-entered to run for McKnight, later scored on an RBI single by Jalia McDaniel to extend the lead to 5-3.

That proved to be more than enough for Claire Mellard. The freshman right-hander went the distance in the circle, allowing three runs on just two hits while working out of several jams to secure the win.

Game 2 vs. Mississippi Gulf Coast
Game two developed into a back-and-forth battle early. Carter continued her strong day at the plate with an RBI single in the first inning to give Hinds the early advantage. In the fourth, Mackenzie Smith delivered an RBI single of her own to put the Eagles back in front 2-1, but Gulf Coast responded again to tie the game at two.

Hinds delivered the decisive blow in the sixth inning. Smith came through once more with another RBI single to break the tie before Emma Hudson added the exclamation point with a two-run blast to stretch the lead to 5-2.

Abby McLean handled the rest in the circle, tossing a complete game while allowing just two runs on five hits and striking out three to earn her fourth win of the season.

Game 1 vs. Coahoma
The Eagles returned home Saturday and celebrated Sophomore Day in dominant fashion. Eight of the nine Hinds starters recorded a hit as the Lady Eagles' offense stayed hot. Aaliyah Nixon led the way with a perfect 3-for-3 performance at the plate, while Jada Ellis, Addison Galloway, Mackenzie Smith, and Abby McLean each produced multi-hit games.

Hinds scored in every inning and secured a 9-1 run-rule victory in five innings. In the circle, Jazmin Robertson was nearly untouchable. The freshman tossed a five-inning no-hitter, striking out three to earn her third win of the season.

Game 2 vs. Coahoma
The Eagles wasted no time carrying that momentum into game two. Hinds scored in the first and second innings to build an early 4-0 lead and never looked back. Nixon, Ellis, and McDaniel each recorded multi-hit performances, while six additional Lady Eagles added a hit as Hinds continued to apply offensive pressure throughout the game.

Mattie Gibson earned her fourth win of the season after delivering four strong innings in the circle, allowing just three hits. Laicie Bridges closed out the game in the fifth inning, allowing only one Tiger to reach base.

Hinds will return to the diamond Wednesday at Rene T. Warren Field for a Top-20 NJCAA showdown with Copiah-Lincoln. First pitch of the doubleheader is scheduled for 3 PM.
