Willie Calvin, a former men’s track and field star at Hinds Community College, returned to Raymond in 2014 and serves as an assistant coach for the nationally renowned Eagles Track and Field program.

Calvin has twice been named National Men's Assistant Coach of the Year by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) for the 2016 and 2017 National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division I Outdoor Track & Field seasons.

His tenure at Hinds has seen a remarkable amount of success, including five individual national championships and one National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) record in jumps. Calvin has helped lead Hinds to 153 total USTFCCCA and NJCAA All-Americans since 2014.

Since 2016, Calvin has coached five NJCAA National Champions and four NJCAA National Runner Ups in jumping events. That list includes athletes such as Breanna Brown-Marshall, who holds the school record for indoor and outdoor high jump, and Milton Harrell, who holds a NJCAA Record in jumping events.

Calvin, a Greenville native, recently earned his Bachelor of Science degree in physical education from North Carolina Central University (NCCU) in Durham, N.C.

He won the Mississippi Gatorade Track and Field Athlete of the Year Award as a senior at Greenville Weston High School after winning state championships in both the high jump and long jump in 2009.

Calvin, a Hinds student-athlete from 2009-2011, was a three-time United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-American after posting two eighth place finishes in the high jump with a leap of 6 feet, 8 inches at the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Indoor and Outdoor Nationals as both a freshman and sophomore.

He also had a third place finish at the NJCAA Indoor National Championships as a freshman and was named an All-American for his high finish. His personal best in the high jump was seven feet, one and three-fourths inches.

He then moved on to NCCU, where he was a two-time 2x Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) high jump champion.

Calvin currently resides in Raymond with his wife Helena.
