Emily Homan was selected as the new head coach of the Hinds Community College women’s soccer program in January 2016, as tabbed by Hinds athletic director Gene Murphy.

She replaces Marcille McLendon, who voluntarily stepped down from coaching duties prior to the 2016 spring semester for family reasons, but will still remain on staff with the Hinds CC Physical Education department.

McLendon compiled a six-year record of 58-38-5 and claimed six consecutive Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges (MACJC) North division titles from 2010-2015.

“I want to thank athletic director, Gene Murphy, and assistant AD, Dot Murphy for selecting me to lead the women's soccer program here at Hinds,” said Homan.

“I am very excited about this opportunity and am looking to build upon what Coach McLendon has done with the program.”

Homan comes to Raymond after a two-year stint as the first women’s soccer assistant coach at Jackson State University, where she helped lead the Lady Tigers to an 11-7-2 overall mark and second place finish in the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) in 2015.

She also helped JSU to a 9-9-3 overall record and a semifinal finish in the 2014 SWAC tournament.

Homan was involved in a myriad of duties during her time in Jackson, which included scouting, academics, recruiting, compliance, community service, fundraising and the management of the team’s social media accounts.

Gene Murphy is well aware of the tradition in place with the Lady Eagles program and feels that Homan is a welcome addition to the Hinds athletic department.
“We are excited to have Emily as our new head women’s soccer coach and are looking forward to working with her,” said Murphy, who also doubles as the school’s head football coach.

“She was a Division I soccer player and has great experience that she will bring to our program.”

Prior to her arrival at JSU, Homan served as an assistant coach with the Upper Cumberland United Soccer Club in Cookeville, Tennessee, where she worked with the under U17 girls (from 2011-13) before working with the U14 girls in the spring of 2014.

In 2011, she helped lead the U17 team to the Tennessee Division III state club semi-finals.

Homan played collegiate soccer at Tennessee Tech University, where she was a key contributor in 40 games over three seasons before suffering a career ending injury.

As a freshman, she played in 19 games with three starts, logging 710 minutes of playing time. Her sophomore season was limited to a mere two games before Homan came down with a season-ending knee injury.

The injury did not slow her down in the classroom, however, as Homan was named to the Athletic Director’s Honor Roll in 2010.

Homan returned to the playing field in 2011, where she competed in 18 contests and started three of them.

During her time at Tennessee Tech, Homan worked in the sports information department and wrote for the school newspaper known as The Oracle.

She also served as the color commentator for the soccer team through the Ohio Valley Conference (OVC) Digital Network in 2013.

Homan, a resident of Jackson, earned a Bachelor of Science degree in communications from TTU in 2014.

She will enter the 2016 season amid high expectations, but is looking to embrace the standard set before her.

“I have very high expectations for this program and where it can go,” said Homan.

As for the immediate future, she is looking to add players to the current roster through the signing period that has already begun.

“Right now we are solidifying our recruiting class and focusing on our returners next fall,” said Homan.
