Bulldogs get off to rough start in division play
The Hinds Bulldogs men's basketball team has gotten off on the wrong foot as South division play has started.
Hinds fell to 2-6 overall and 0-2 in the South division after losing an 84-76 contest to Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College on Monday night in Utica.
Erik Burks of Edwards, a sophomore forward, had a big night for the Bulldogs, pouring in 27 points, but it was not enough.
His twin brother, Derek Burks, also contributed nicely with 17 points.
On Thursday, Dec. 2, Hinds traveled to Jones County Junior College in Ellisville to open South division play, but the Bulldogs were defeated, 99-72, by the Bobcats.
Trevis Thomas of Edwards, a freshman guard, led Hinds on the night with 17 points.
On a positive note, Hinds picked up an out-of-conference victory over Delgado (La.) Community College on Monday, Nov. 29. The Bulldogs defeated the Dolphins, 96-87.
Hinds will return to the court on Thursday night, as the Bulldogs host Meridian Community College at 8 p.m. in Utica.
