Bulldogs earn playoff berth

The 2011-2012 basketball season will continue for the Hinds Bulldogs after their 79-65 victory on Thursday night at Southwest Community College. The victory moved Hinds to 8-15 overall and 6-6 in the South division.

Hinds has earned a berth in the Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges (MACJC) state tournament that will start on Monday at Itawamba Community College in Fulton.

The Bulldogs of Hinds, the number three seed from the South division, will take on the Bulldogs of Holmes Community College, the number two seed from the North division, on Monday night at 8 p.m. at the Davis Event Center on the campus of ICC.

The state tournament is of the single-elimination variety.

Dominique Brown of Vicksburg, a freshman guard, had a breakout game against the Bears of Southwest, as he finished with 27 points, including four three pointers.

Trevis Thomas of Edwards, a sophomore guard, ended the night with 21 points.

The Bulldogs are now on a two-game winning streak after defeating Meridian Community College, 69-68, in a nail biter on Monday night.
