The 2011-2012 season for men's basketball at Hinds came to an end on Thursday night after a crushing 71-68 defeat at the hands of Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College in the Region XXIII tournament at A.E. Wood Coliseum on the campus of Mississippi College.
The see-saw battle between the two Bulldogs went down to the wire when
Trevis Thomas of Edwards, a sophomore guard, hit an off-balace three point shot to tie the game at 68 with just over seven seconds to play, and Hinds was hoping to send the game into overtime.
However, the battle was finally won when Gulf Coast guard Jeremiah Dunnings hit a long three pointer as time expired to defeat Hinds (8-17 overall, 6-6 in the South) and end their shot of winning a regional championship.
Tremaine Cunningham of Southaven, a freshman forward, led Hinds in points (12) and rebounds (eight).
Thomas was the only other double digit scorer for the Bulldogs of Hinds, as he finished with 10 points.
