Trell Kimmons, a former Hinds Community College men's track and field star, will compete in the 2012 Olympic Games in London as a member of the men's 4x100 meter relay team.

Kimmons, a Coldwater native, finished sixth in the men's 100 meter finals at the Olympic Trials in Eugene, Ore., to qualify for a spot on the 4x100 meter relay team. He will run three meets before the Olympic Games start on July 27, and will not return back to the states until September 8.

“It is every professional athlete's goal to reach the Olympics and unless you're in the military, you cannot say that you represented your country,” said Kimmons. “I'm proud to represent Hinds Community College, the state of Mississippi and the United States in the London Olympics.”

He was a four-time national champion and set two National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) records during his time at Hinds.

As a freshman in 2005, Kimmons won a national title in the 60-meter dash (6.58 seconds) and 200-meter dash (20.32 seconds). He would win the same events as a sophomore in 2006, and would set NJCAA records in the process, running the 60-meter dash in 6.53 seconds and the 200-meter dash in 20.89 seconds.

Kimmons, who was also the 2012 USA indoor national champion in the 60-meter dash with a blazing time of 6.45 seconds, will begin relay camps in Monaco on July 15, with the Olympic Games opening on July 27.
