UTICA- The Hinds Bulldogs collected their first win last night (Nov. 13) defeating Mississippi Delta 62-60 in a closely contested ballgame. This win marks
Yusef Fitzgerald's first victory as head coach of the Hinds Bulldogs.
"It's a blessing getting my first win as head coach. This league is so tough and competitive that no wins come easy," said Fitzgerald.
The victory improved the Bulldogs overall record to 1-2 and displayed the progress the team is making early in the season.
In their first two games, the Bulldogs fell to the Mississippi Delta Trojans 82-76 and the Delgado Dolphins 72-60. Last night, the Bulldogs got redemption on the Trojans and protected their home court.
"The first few games we were trying to find our identity. This is a brand new group of players, but the guys have bought in to the team concept and are starting to play selfless basketball," Fitzgerald commented on his team's progress.
Throughout the first three games, sophomore guard, Nakia Rivers (Charlotte, NC), has displayed his prolific scoring ability averaging 21 points per game.
Rivers will look to lead the Bulldogs to victory on Thursday, Nov. 16 when Hinds takes on Holmes (3-1) at home in J.D. Boyd Gymnasium. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m.
