UTICA – The Hinds Bulldogs jumped out to an early lead Monday Night (Feb. 5) before eventually falling to Jones 73-62.
The Bulldogs came out the gate on fire and took a 16-10 lead over the Bobcats halfway through the first half.
The Bobcats would trade blows with the Bulldogs and eventually take a four-point lead in the final minute of the first half. With just one second remaining the Jones ball handler hoisted up a shot from half court while simultaneously colliding with Bulldog defender
Dontrell McQuarter. The half-court shot would end up finding the bottom of the net as time expired giving Jones a seven-point advantage (38-31) heading into halftime.
The second half the Bulldogs went down by as many as 13-points before cutting the Jones lead to just three points (53-50) with 9:07 remaining in the game. The Bulldogs kept it close until Jones took an eight-point advantage with some quick scores in the final minutes. The Bobcats finished the game taking advantage of their lead and ran out the clock securing the 73-62 victory over the Bulldogs.
Dontrell McQuarter led the Bulldog offense continuing his impressive freshman campaign as he scored 15 points going 7-13 (54%) from the field. McQuarter also added seven rebounds and two assists.
McQuarter will look to get the Hinds Bulldogs (10-8, 3-6) back on track this Thursday (Feb. 7) when they take on the Meridian Community College Eagles (7-10, 2-7) at home in Utica. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
