Hinds Competes well at NJCAA Nationals; Todd takes home National Championship in the High Jump

HOBBS, NEW MEXICO – The Hinds Community College Track and Field team competed at the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Outdoor Championships this past weekend and displayed why it is revered as one of the top programs in the country.

The men's team finished as the No. 7 team in the Nation while the women's team finished as the No. 17 team in the Nation.

Corvell Todd continued to dominate in the men's high jump as he brought home his second National Championship this year with a jump of 2.18 meters against the wind.

Another bright spot was Terrance Laird's preliminary run time in the 200 meter. Laird finished his preliminary run with a time of 19.64. That time would rank 9th all time in history of the world according to IAAF behind the likes of Usain Bolt, Michael Johnson, and Tyson Gay.

Additionally, Hinds was awarded six NJCAA All-Americans and 18 USTFCCCA All-Americans.

Men's results

Corvell Todd wins National Championship in Men's High Jump with a jump of 2.18m.

Men's 4x100m relay team composed of Diamante Griffin, Terrance Laird, Babakarr Randall, and Khance Meyers finished 2nd in the finals with a time of 39.24.

Men's 4x400m relay team composed of Diamante Griffin, Kris Moore, Babakarr Randall, and Zac Goodman finished 3rd in the finals with a time of 3:12.55.

Terrance Laird finished 2nd in the 100m dash final with a time of 10.14. 

Khance Meyers finished 5th in the 100m dash final with a time of 10.28. 

Khance Meyers finished 3rd in the 200m finals with a time of 20.58.

Women's results

Maresha Chandler finished 5th in the women's 400m time of 56.13.

Trishauna Hemmings finished 4th in the 100m hurdle final with a time of 13.70.

Women's 4x400m relay team composed of D'Ajah Miley, Jasmine Ward, JaMaya Rand, and Zykia Cage
finished 6th in the finals with a time of 3:56.45. 

Aleekia Lewis and Trishauna Hemmings placed 10th and 11th respectively in the Women's Long Jump. Lewis final jump was 18-11.75 while Hemmings final jump was 18-10.75.
