Eagles rake in postseason honors

RAYMOND- Ten Hinds Community College Eagle football players have been recognized for their performances on the gridiron in the 2021 season.

On offense, sophomore quarterback BeSean McCray (Orlando, Fla.) received All-Region XXIII honors as well as First Team All-Conference. Freshman running back Jeffrey Pittman (Taylorsville) reeled in three postseason awards. Pittman was named Region XXIII MVP, South Division Offensive MVP and First Team All-Conference. Sophomore receiver Tabashi Thomas (Douglasville, Ga.) was also named to the All-Region XXIII Team along with receiving a First Team All-Conference honor. Sophomore offensive linemen Braidron Hodo (Greenwood) was named to the All-Region XXIII Team as well as being named First Team All-Conference. Sophomore offensive lineman Jonquez Roby (West Point) also was named First Team All-Conference. Rounding out the offensive awards for the Eagles is Carsson DeYoung (Clinton), who was named Second Team All-Conference at tight end.

On defense, four Eagles received postseason honors. Sophomore defensive lineman Jaylan Ware (Starkville) was named First Team All-Conference and was named to the All-Region XIII Team. Sophomore defensive lineman Reginald Barnes (Pascagoula) was also named First Team All-Conference. Sophomore linebacker Thaddeus Bishop (Jackson) was named to the All-Region XXIII Team and First Team All-Conference. Rounding out defensive awards is sophomore defensive back Khiry Gee (Starkville), who was named to the All-Region XXIII Team and was also named First Team All-Conference.

Additionally, eight more Eagles received honorable mention. On offense, wide receiver/return specialist Jaiden Burns (Canton), offensive lineman Chris Winston (Vicksburg) and running back Jamarian Samuels (Ocala, Fla.) were named honorable mention. On defense, defensive backs Artavious Washington (Lexington) and Ta'Darrius Williams (Hollandale), linebacker Taylor Hunt (Flowood) and defensive lineman Stefon Smith (Indianola) hauled in honorable mention. Lastly, sophomore punter/kicker Houston Smith (Flowood) received honorable mention for his performance on special teams.

The 2021 Eagle football team finished the season 8-3 earning a berth to the Mississippi Association of Community Colleges Conference playoffs and upsetting top-ranked East Mississippi in the first round. Currently, the Eagles are eagerly awaiting to hear from the National Junior College Athletic Association whether they will receive a berth to play in a bowl game.
