Bulldogs rally late, fall to East Central in season opener

11/2/2021 2:00:00 PM

Box Score UTICA - The Hinds Community College men's basketball team fell 77-74 in the 2021-2022 season opener to East Central Community College Monday evening.

Being down 17 points at one point, the Bulldogs came from behind and took the lead in the final two minutes of the game on a Kyle Hayman (Monroe, La.) three pointer. But, the Warriors sealed the victory when a three pointer from Jalen Myers (Madison, Ala.) rimmed out at the final buzzer.

"I have to give credit to East Central tonight because they hit us in the mouth early and got us down 17," head coach Jonathan Nevol said. "I'm proud that we fought back and took the lead late, but moving forward we know not to put ourselves in that predicament, take care of the ball better and execute in key parts of the game. We expected it was going to be a battle tonight. Now we will re-group and focus on the next one up."

Leading the scoring for the Bulldogs were Kyle Hayman and Jalen Myers with 23 points. Myers also finished with 17 rebounds, giving him his first double-double in a Bulldog uniform. Sophomore guards Deandre Buggage (Gray, La.) and Martarious Burrell (Yazoo City) rounded out the majority of the scoring for the Bulldogs with 12 and nine points.

The Bulldogs are back in action this Thursday when they travel to New Orleans to take on Delgado Community College. The game is set to tip-off at 6 p.m.
