BIRMINGHAM ALA. - Hinds Community College Track and Field kicked off their 2022 campaign on Saturday with an impressive showing at the Samford Open.
Â
After just one meet, the Eagles have a total of 13 athletes (eight women, five men) qualify for the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) national meet in March.
Â
Leading the charge for the Eagles was reigning women's high jump national champion
Breanna Brown-Marshall (Birmingham, Ala.) and freshman
Kayla Jemison (Hoover, Ala.), who both tied for second nationally in the high jump at 1.67 meters.
Â
Head coach
Reginald Dillon was pleased with the performance of his team.
Â
"For the first meet of the year, I am very proud of our team," Dillon said. "The majority of the teams in the nation are on their second and third meets, so to have 13 NJCAA qualifiers is a big win for us. We still need to keep improving and stay focused for each meet."
