Box Score UTICA - The Hinds Community College Bulldogs took Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College to the wire Monday night before falling a point short in high-scoring overtime affair.
Freshman guard
Jamaal Esco, of Jackson, led the way in scoring for the Bulldogs with 20 points in the 97-96 home loss. The former Murrah High School player also added five assists and four rebounds.
"This was a very great game! Both teams made plays down the stretch, and we came up short," head coach
Jonathan Nevol said. "We have to capitalize on mistakes that other teams make against us. We played with great effort and execution, and that is a good team we went to battle against. Credit to Gulf Coast. They took advantage of the mistakes we made late and made winning plays and we had a good look at the end and just came up a little short."
The loss moved the team to 2-3 in conference play.
Sophomore forward
Jalen Myers, Madison, Ala., posted a double-double with 18 points and 11 rebounds. Sophomore guard
Kyle Hayman, of Monroe, La., added 14 points and four rebounds.
The Bulldogs return to action Thursday night in Senatobia against Northwest Mississippi Community College. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m.
