RAYMOND – Hinds Community College football fell 28-21 to Copiah-Lincoln Community College Thursday to conclude their 2022 campaign. The Eagles finished 2022 with a record of 4-5 overall and 3-3 in conference.

"It was definitely an up and down year," said head coach Larry Williams. "Our kids played extremely hard, but we were often very inconsistent this season. I really wanted this final game for our sophomores because they have won so many big games for us. I can't say enough how proud I am of their contribution to this program's future."

The Eagles won the toss and chose to receive to start the contest. The offense then would go nine plays for 62 yards and score a touchdown on a Jamarian Samuels (Ocala, Fla.) 20-yard run. Ben Duncan's (Florence) extra point gave the Eagles a 7-0 lead with 10:15 left in the first quarter.

Hinds would then force a quick three-and-out to give the ball back to the offense. The offense was moving the ball efficiently on their ensuing possession, but the drive stalled when they fumbled the ball near the redzone. The Wolves would take the momentum and go 13 plays for 84 yards for their first points of the night. There would be 2:24 left in the first quarter after Co-Lin would take 5:37 off the clock.

The score remained 7-7 deep into the second quarter until the Wolves found the endzone from five yards out. The Wolves would carry a 14-7 lead into the locker room for halftime.

Hinds picked up some much-needed momentum with an interception on the Wolves first second-half offensive play. Coming up with the pick was Ty'Verius Nichols (Starkville). This turnover would lead to points when Jeffrey Pittman (Taylorsville) would punch the ball in from two yards out. Duncan's extra point made the score 14-14 with 13:07 left in the third quarter.

The Wolves would then grab the lead once again a few possessions later to make the score 21-14 with 5:30 left in the third quarter.

After an Eagle punt on the ensuing possession, the Hinds defense forced their second turnover when Da'Vonta Jackson (Greensboro) fell on the loose ball. Like the first turnover, this one would lead to points when Pittman would punch the ball in from three yards out. After the touchdown, the score was tied at 21 at the end of the third quarter.

The Hinds defense would force another fumble as the Wolf offense was nearing the endzone after an interception. However, the Eagle offense couldn't convert the turnover into points.

Co-Lin would take advantage of the stalled Eagle drive and score on a 46-yard run to score their final points of the evening.

The Eagles were down to their final drive with just over two minutes left in the contest and couldn't find the endzone, leaving the final score at 28-21.
