RAYMOND – Hinds Community College football (2-3 overall, 2-1 conference) heads to Summit Thursday to take on Southwest Mississippi Community College (2-3 overall, 1-2 conference). Kickoff is set for 6:30 p.m.

In a September full of home games, the Eagles will play in their second away game of the season when they take on the Bears Thursday. Previously, the Eagles took down East Central during the 2022 conference opener.

Last Week

The Eagles are coming off a close loss to Jones College 31-24 at home in week four. The Bears took down East Central in Decatur 24-20.

Last 10

Out of the previous 10 meetings, Hinds holds a 10-0 advantage. Last year, the Eagles took down the Bears in Summit 50-3, which was the largest margin of victory in the last 10 meetings.

Season So Far

The Bears of Southwest are sitting 2-3 overall and 1-2 in conference play so far in 2022. The two wins include a narrow conference win over East Central and a rout of Mississippi Delta at the beginning of the season.

Likewise, Hinds is sitting at 2-3 overall and 2-1 in conference. The Eagle's two wins are against East Central and then fourteenth ranked Pearl River.

Down, But Not Out

Against Northwest and Jones, the Eagles trailed by at least 20 points after the first half and rallied to only be down one score. Last week, Hinds eventually tied the game with Jones with around eight minutes left in the contest.

All-Purpose Back

Sophomore running back Jamarian Samuels (Ocala, Fla.), after five games played, ranks fourth in the country in total rushing and fifth in total all-purpose. Samuels currently has 489 yards rushing and 79 kick return yards. He also is averaging 115.6 all-purpose yards per game.

Flipping the Field

Sophomore punter Ben Duncan (Florence), the conference week three special teams player of the week, ranks eighth in the country in punting. Duncan has punted 31 times for 1193 yards and is averaging 38.5 yards per kick. His longest punt of the season went for 71 yards.

Breast Cancer Awareness Night

The final home game of the 2022 season against Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College on October 20 will be Breast Cancer Awareness Night. We encourage all fans to wear pink to the game, and the first 1,000 fans will get a pink pom-pom. In addition, Hinds Athletics will be decorating the windows of Mayo Field House with ribbons that will include names of those who have gone through Breast Cancer. These ribbons will be moved from the field house to Joe Renfroe Stadium's ticket plaza before kickoff. We encourage anyone that wishes to recognize a friend or family member to email athletics@hindscc.edu with their name. Please note in your email if they are a Hinds employee).
