Bulldogs head into break with 94-86 win over Jaguars

Box Score UTICA, MS – Hinds Community College men's basketball pulled away late in the game to defeat Southern University-Shreveport (SUSLA) 94-86 Saturday evening.

"We found a win today," said head coach Jonathan Nevol. "We didn't execute the best on the defensive side of the ball, but it's good that we still held on. It's a good win before the break. We are looking forward to starting conference play in the new year."

The first half was tight with multiple lead changes occurring for both teams. The Jaguars of SUSLA would end the first half leading 40-38 after stringing together several successful possessions on a few turnovers and fast breaks. Hinds would find themselves in foul trouble early, which led to multiple trips to the free-throw line for the Jaguars.

Hinds would trail from the half until Edarious Williams (Coffeeville) put back a missed basket to put the Bulldogs up 61-60 with 10:10 left in the contest. The Bulldogs would eventually pull away behind two hustle plays by Patrick McCraney (Monroe, LA) and a converted and-one by Kenard Bowie (Jackson).

Leading the Bulldogs in scoring was McCraney with 33 points. Two other Bulldogs found double digits, which were Bowie, who had 15 points, and Morgan Green (Greenville), who had 11 points.

The Bulldogs are back after Christmas break when they head to Booneville to take on Northeast Mississippi Community College. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m.
