Patrick McCraney (Monroe, LA) paved the way for the Hinds Community College men's basketball team to beat Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College 87-84 with his 30- point performance Saturday afternoon.
Hinds was able to overcome a shaky start to the first half and lead at halftime. The Bulldogs would also lead the entire second half and were able to fend-off a late-game comeback from Gulf Coast. The Bulldogs of Gulf Coast weren't able to get a three-point basket after two attempts close to the final buzzer, and Hinds would emerge with the victory.
"This was a great team win," said head coach Jonathan Nevol. "It took the full effort of everyone today. I'm proud our guys stepped up when their names were called and made plays to help us win."
McCraney led all scoring with his 30. He was closely followed by
Taylon Smith (Vicksburg), who had 22 with the majority of those points coming from behind the arc.
Edarious Williams (Coffeeville) and
Rylen Walker (Baton Rouge, LA) also both found double digits with Williams scoring 11 and Walker scoring 10.
"I like our offensive production the past two games," said Nevol. "But, we have to get back to defending again after giving up 80 each game."
