Bulldogs Pick Up Two Victories at Coca-Cola Classic

SUMMIT, Miss. – The Hinds Community College Men's Basketball team went undefeated in the Coca-Cola Classic over the past two days in Summit for the Coca-Cola Classic. The Bulldogs earned a 70-67 victory over Bossier Parish CC on Monday and wrapped up the Classic with a 98-96 overtime win against Southern University-Shreveport on Tuesday. 
 
"I am very proud of this team. They responded after letting two games slip away last week. They came out and fought together as a team. We still are making some mistakes however that is just part of the process. Players must continue to step up and give their very best every night. Big tests coming up this week," said Head basketball Coach Jonathan Nevol.
 
In the opening game of the Coca-Cola Classic, Jakobe Singleton led the Bulldogs in scoring with 18 points, 12 rebounds, and four steals. Dion Perkins and Joseph Dupree finished the game with 13 points apiece and registered five rebounds. Jamari Glover posted nine points and had a team-high four assists.
 
 Edarious Williams shot 50 percent from the field and grabbed 10 boards. Rounding out the scoring was Joshua Lemon (five points), Jaquarrius Collum (four points), and Elijah Kennedy (two points). 
 
In the final game of the Coca-Cola Classic, the Bulldogs squeezed by with a 98-96 win over Southern University-Shreveport in overtime. Jakobe Singleton was the difference in the contest scoring 42 points, 22 rebounds, five assists, and four steals. Additionally, he shot 77.2 percent from the floor, 66 percent from long range, and 66.6 percent from the charity stripe. 
 
Dion Perkins finished the game with 20 points and a posted a team-high seven assists. Edarious Williams played in 30 minutes and finished the game with a double-double (11 points and 11 rebounds). The final Bulldogs with double-digit scoring was Joshua Lemon with 10 points. 
 
As a team, the Bulldogs shot 54.8% from the field, 31.3% from behind the arc, and 56.5% from the free throw line. Hinds improved to 3-3 overall through six games this season. 
 
The Bulldogs will return to action on Friday, November 17 against #2 South Plains College in Levelland, TX in the Texan Classic. Tipoff is set for 7:30 PM.
