RAYMOND, Miss. – The Hinds Community College Football team fell to Copiah-Lincoln Community College 13-0 in the season finale at Joe Renfroe Stadium. Prior to the game, we honored our sophomore cheerleaders and football players.
The Wolves scored a 29-yard field goal on their opening drive to make the score 3-0 with 8:29 remaining in the first half. With less than three minutes left in the first quarter, the Wolves went for it on fourth down, but the hinds' defense was too strong as the Eagles took over on downs as the Wolves took the 3-0 advantage at the end of the first quarter.
It was a quiet start to the first quarter as both teams exchanged possessions, but
Walter Owens grabbed his first pick of the season as the Eagles got the ball again, but their drive ended with a pick in the endzone with 2:33 left in the second quarter. Just before the halftime break, the Wolves broke away with an 80-yard rushing touchdown to make the score 10-0 at the end of the first half.
Co-Lin extended their lead to 13-0 after the field goal with 6:24 remaining in the third quarter. The Eagles got into Wolves territory and went for a 35-yard field, but the field got blocked as the score remained 13-0 with 1:29 left in the third quarter. The Eagles were down by 13 pointed headed into the final quarter of play.
The fourth quarter was uneventful as the Eagles and Wolves exchanged possessions. Neither team scored in the final quarter as the Wolves sealed the 13-0 victory over the Eagles on Sophomore Day to conclude the 2023 season.
Roman Mula led the offense with 65 passing yards and 35 rushing yards to gain 100 yards of total offense on the night.
Jamar Grace led the receivers with two receptions for 47 yards with a long of 43 yards.
Jeremy Evans led the Eagles with eight total tackles, while
Branden Jennings finished the contest with six tackles and registered a TFL.
Kelbee Holmes and
Devarrick Woods was accounted for a sack in the contest, while
Walter Owens had the interception for the Eagles.
Tanner Hollingsworth punted the ball eight times and dropped one inside the 20-yard line with his longest punt being 42 yards.
Jerrell Boyd had three returns for 60 yards.
The Eagles conclude the 2023 season with a 3-6 overall record and 3-3 in conference play.
