UTICA, Miss. – The Hinds Community College Lady Bulldogs team picked up a crucial victory over Southern University-Shreveport by a final score of 79-77 on Thursday evening inside J.D Boyd Gymnasium.
The Lady Bulldogs started the game off slow but gained the momentum late to close out the first quarter on a 11-0 run. Hinds begin to heat up offensively to outscore the jags 25-15 in the second quarter to take the 45-38 advantage into the halftime break.
The Lady Bulldogs could not keep the offensive rhythm going in the third quarter as they were outscored 23-11 to make the score 61-56 going into the final quarter of regulation. Being down by five points, Hinds knew they had to get stops defensively and capitalize on their offensive possessions. The Lady Bulldogs was up to the test and executed the plan perfectly to grab the 79-77 win over SUSLA.
Ten different Lady Bulldogs scored in the win over SUSLA. Lamaria Jones led all scorers with 30 points and grabbed 13 rebounds. Additionally, she went 10-for-13 from the field and shot 69.2% from the charity stripe.Kimiyah Williams was the other Lady Bulldog that scored double digits with 10 points.
D'nara Barton played well off of the bench with nine points, while Jayiah Ransom finished the contest with seven points. Jaydia Morris scored six points and Tra'Shaylah Wilson scored five points in the contest. Brooklyn Harris and Brianna Jordan each had four points in the win. Rounding out the scoring for the Lady Bulldogs was Chasity Woodard and Taniah parker with two points apiece.
Hinds will return to action on Monday, December 4th against Coastal Alabama CC in the Southwest Classic. The Classic will be hosted by Southwest Mississippi CC in Summit, MS. Tip off for the game is set for 5:30 PM.
