SUMMIT, Miss. - The Hinds Community College Baseball team split Wednesday's doubleheader against Southwest Mississippi and Co-Lin in Summit, Miss. on Wednesday afternoon. The Eagles fell in the first contest 4-1 to SMCC, but bounced back in the second game with a 7-6 victory over Co-Lin.
GAME ONE
In the first game of the day, the Eagles jumped out to an early lead scoring a run in the top of the first frame. The hosts tied the game in the bottom of the second inning to make the score 1-1. In the bottom of the third inning, the Bears scored three runs to push the lead to 4-1. The Eagles had an opportunity to score in the top of the seventh but fell short as the Bears secured the 4-1 victory.
Cole Smith went the distance on the mound and took the loss for the Eagles tossing six complete innings and registering five strikeouts. Ashton Johnson led the Eagles, going 1-2 from the plate, and scoring a run, while Connor Chisolm posted the only RBI in the contest. Lincoln Sheffield tallied the other hit for the Eagles going 1-3 from the dish.
GAME TWO
Hinds bounced back in the second game of the doubleheader, starting strong once again with a run in the bottom of the first frame. The Eagles would add another run in the bottom of the second inning off an RBI single by Tyler Janos to extend the lead to 2-0.
The Wolves scratched across their first run of the contest, but Hinds responded with three runs of their own to take the 5-1 advantage going into the fourth inning. After a scoreless fourth inning both teams scored a run in the fifth as the Eagles held on to the 6-2 lead.
The visitors grabbed a run in the top of the sixth inning via a passed ball. Connor Chisolm belted a solo homerun to right field to make the score 7-3 after seven complete innings. Co-Lin rallied for three runs in the top of the eighth inning, but the Eagles defense held strong to secure the 7-6 victory over the Wolves.
Matthew Azordegan got the start on the bump for the Eagles and struck out five batters in the no decision. John David Gunn came in relief and earned his first victory of the season after earning three strikeouts through 2.1 innings. Alex McGarth came in the close-out the ballgame and earned his first save of the season after striking out four batters in two innings pitched.
Offensively, Connor Chislom led the Eagles going 2-3 from the plate and hit a homerun in the contest. Cole Smith was the other Eagle to hit a homerun in the game and collected two RBI. Dylan Coleman had multiple RBI and scored a run in the process.

The Eagles will return to Joe G. Moss field on Saturday, March 4 against Southeastern Iowa Community College Blackhawks for a doubleheader beginning at 2:00 PM.
