RAYMOND, Miss. – The Hinds Community College baseball team picked up a sweep over the Holmes Community College Bulldogs on Sophomore Day with final scores of 11-1 in game one and 6-3 in the final game on Friday. The Eagles turned around and drew a split to RV Northeast Mississippi Community College as Hinds picked up the 5-4 victory in game one and fell 16-3 in the nightcap.
In game one of the doubleheader against Holmes, the visitors got the scoring started after they scored on a pass ball in the top of the first inning. The Eagles responded with four runs of their own in the bottom half of the frame to bring the score to 4-1. Hinds continued to score runs in the bottom of the second to bring the score to 7-1 after two innings of play. The Eagles scored one more run in the fifth, two runs in the sixth, and one run in the eighth to grab the 11-1 run rule victory.
Cameron Hill led the offense for the Eagles going 2-4 from the plate and picked up three RBI.
Connor Chisolm and
Tom Lee each hit homerun in the contest to contribute to the victory.
Tyler Janos was the other Eagle to collect multiple hits in the contest.
Matthew Azordegan was flawless on the mound as he earned the victory after tossing 6.0 innings and picked up four strikeouts.
John David Gunn came in relief for the Eagles and only gave up one hit in two innings pitched.
In game two of the doubleheader, the Eagles scored the first two runs of the game from a two-RBI single from
Tyler Janos in the bottom of the first inning. The Bulldogs plated their first run of the game in the top of the third, but the Eagles tallied two runs in the bottom of the fourth to extend the lead to 4-1. The Bulldogs cut the lead to one in the bottom of the fifth, but Hinds scored two additional runs in the sixth to pick up the 6-3 victory in the seven-inning contest.
Tyler Janos went 2-3 at the plate and racked up three RBI, while
Dylan Coleman went 2-2 from the plate and scored two runs.
Connor Nation got the start and went the distance to earn the victory on the mound for the Eagles. He tossed 7.0 innings and gave up only five hits and collected seven strikeouts.
In the first game of the doubleheader on Sunday against NEMCC, the visitors had the 4-0 lead going into the bottom of the fifth inning until the Eagles scored five unanswered runs in the fifth, sixth, and seventh to earn the 5-4 victory over the Tigers.
Dylan Coleman led the Eagles going 3-4 from the plate, scored a run, and picked up two RBI.
Connor Chisolm finished the game going 3-3 from the plate and scored twice in the victory.
Evan McCarthy was the final Eagle to have a multi-hit game collecting three hits and grabbed an RBI.
Brady Boykin got the start on the mound for Hinds and tossed 3.1 innings and only gave up two runs and five hits.
Cole Smith came in relief and picked up his fourth win of the season on the mound after tossing 3.2 innings and only gave up one hit in the outing.
Lincoln Sheffield came in relief of Smith and pitched the eighth and ninth to pick up the save.
In the final game of the doubleheader against Northeast, the Tigers dominated from the first pitch. The Eagles grabbed three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning as Northeast picked up the 16-3 victory.
As a team, the Eagles collected four hits and scored three runs in the split.
Cole Thompson led the way for Hinds as he hit a two-run homerun to lead the offense.
Evan McCarthy also hit a solo homerun, while
Ashton Johnson broke up the no hitter with a double to left field.

The Eagles clinched the No. 7 spot in the NJCAA Region 23 First Round, so they will travel to Fulton, MS on Thursday for a best of 3 series with Itawamba. The First pitch is scheduled for 6:00 PM.
