Eagles Stumble on the Road at #11 NWCC

SENATOBIA, Miss. – The Hinds Community College football team came up short on Thursday evening as they were beaten by #11 Northwest Mississippi Community College 19-3 at Bobby Franklin Field. 
 
On the opening drive of the game, the Eagles were able to move the ball into Rangers' territory. However, the Eagles failed to convert on fourth down as the drive ended on a turnover on downs five minutes into the first quarter. Northwest scored a 39-yard field goal on their first offensive drive to take the 3-0 advantage over the Eagles at the end of the first quarter. 
 
After a punt and a pass interference call on the Rangers, the Eagles starts their drive own the NWCC 45. The Eagles once again goes for it on fourth down but failed to convert it. On the following possession, the Eagles' defense held strong to hold the Rangers to a field goal to make the score 6-0. With the clock winding down, Northwest tacked on a touchdown late in the second quarter to bring the score to 13-0 at halftime. 
 
Northwest had the ball coming out of the halftime break, but Janari Powell picked off Patterson and returned it for 16 yards. The Eagles marched down the field as Tanner Hollingsworth put the Eagles on the board with a 21-yard field goal. The Rangers added another field goal late in the third quarter to make the score 16-3 going into the final quarter of play.
 
Midway through the final quarter, the Rangers sent a 27-yard field goal through the uprights as the Rangers extended their lead to 19-3. The Eagles had an opportunity to score late in the contest but came up short as Northwest grabbed the 19-3 victory over Hinds.
 
Offensively, the Eagles struggled to find any rhythm in the game. Jerrell Boyd led the rushing attack with 51 yards, while Ja'Marion Johnson led the receiving corps with 22 yards. 
 
Defensively, the Eagles played well holding the Rangers to four field goals and only one touchdown. Kelbee Holmes led the way with seven total tackles and a TFL. 
 
The Eagles will return to action on Thursday, September 21st for the Home Opener. It will be Military Appreciation Night and Thursday Night Lights. Kickoff is set for 6:30 PM.
