UTICA, Miss. – The Hinds Community College Men's Basketball team picked up a huge win over #23 Northeast Mississippi Community College on Thursday evening inside J. D. Boyd Gymnasium. With the win, the Bulldogs earn their first conference victory of the season.
The Bulldogs and Tigers exchanged buckets for the majority of the first half as the lead was separated by two possessions until the final minute of play in the first half. Hinds extended the lead by seven points late in the first half to bring the score to 35-28 at the halftime break.
Hinds held onto the lead until the 5:53 mark in the second half, but the Bulldogs quickly regained the lead. The Bulldogs led the Tigers with 17 seconds remaining in regulation, but a three-point foul was called, and Parr knocked all three shots down to send the contest into overtime. At the end of regulation, the score was knotted up at 73.
The Bulldogs took the lead in overtime and never let up. The visitors tied the contest early in the overtime period, but never regained the lead as the Bulldogs picked up the 86-81 victory over the #23 ranked team in the country.
Jakobe Singleton led the Bulldogs with 28 points and 12 rebounds. Additionally, he went 9-15 from the field and 10-11 from the charity stripe.
Dion Perkins finished the game with a double-double totaling 19 points and 10 rebounds.
Kobe Jones finished the contest with 16 points, while
Edarious Williams posted 10 points and nine rebounds.
Joshua Lemon tallied six points in 14 points for the Bulldogs, while
Joseph Dupree collected five points and had a team-high 11 assists. Rounding out the scoring for Hinds was
Marquis Williams with two points.
The Bulldogs will return to action on Monday, January 29 against RV Pearl River CC in Poplarville, MS. Tip-off is set for 7:30 PM.
