SUMMIT, Miss. – The Hinds Community College Football team fell to Southwest Mississippi Community College 34-20 on Saturday in Summit.
The Bears jumped out to a 10-point lead in the first quarter before Watson found Gardner in stride for the touchdown to cut the lead to 10-7 with 1:48 left in the first quarter. The score remained 10-7 going into the second quarter.
The Bears scored three more times in the second quarter to extend their lead to 27-7, before
Demar Gardner returned a 97-yard kickoff for a touchdown to bring the score to 27-14 with 2:42 remaining until halftime. The Bears scored a touchdown just before the halftime break to bring the score to 34-14.
After a scoreless third quarter, Hinds found the endzone with 4:45 minutes left in regulation after
Nassir Donohoo conned with
Tyrell Pollard for the touchdown. The Bears went on to take down Hinds by a final score of 34-20.
Offensively,
Nassir Donohoo went 8-18 through the air for 179 yards and one touchdown.
Jabari Watson totaled 78 passing yards and one touchdown. As a rushing unity, the Eagles rushed for 26 yards. The receiving corps showed out as
Demar Gardner had a career game for Hinds as he finished the contest with four receptions for 120 yards and one touchdown. Additionally, he was the kick returner on kickoffs and finished with three returns for 122 yards and one touchdown. Gardner finished the contest with 242 All-Purpose yards.
Tyrell Pollard was another bright spot for hinds as he hauled in three receptions for 106 yards and one touchdown.
Defensively,
Walter Owens and
Devarrick Woods led the defense with eight total tackles apiece. Owens finished the game with one TFL, and one INT, while Woods finished with 1.5 TFL, and 1 sack.
William Harry had a strong game with seven total tackles and 2.5 TFL. As a team, the Eagles finished the contest with 68 total tackles, 10 TFL, two sacks, and one interception.
Hinds will return to action on Thursday, October 24 against Pearl River CC for Homecoming on Gene Murphy Field at Joe Renfroe Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7 PM.
