UTICA, Miss. – The Hinds Community College Men's Basketball team defeated Piney Woods Prep 91-64 on Faculty and Staff Appreciation Day inside J.D. Boyd Gymnasium on Thursday afternoon. With the win, the Bulldogs improve to 3-1 on the season and riding a three-game winning streak.
Hinds opened the scoring and went on a 11-3 run in the opening three minutes of the game. The Bulldogs offense continued to shine and led the Piney Woods Tornados 45-33 at the halftime break.
The Bulldogs began to pull away with a 20-point advantage midway through the second half. Hinds scored 27 more points in the final 10 minutes of regulation to earn the 91-64 victory and extend their winning streak to three games.
Jakobe led all scorers with 29 points and shot 10-19 from the floor. Additionally, he grabbed 10 rebounds, six assists, and shot 80% from the charity stripe.
Marquis Williams finished the contest with 17 points and posted two blocks, while
Isaac Ratliff shot 5-for-6 from the floor and grabbed four rebounds.
Daveon Henry shot 85.7 percent from the free throw line and finished with four assists running the points.
As a team, 14 Bulldogs saw the floor with 12 of them scoring at least two points in the contest. Additionally, Hinds shot 49.2% from the floor, 25% from behind the arc, and 68.4% from the charity stripe.
Hinds will return to action on Monday, November 18
th when they compete in the Southwest Classic in Summit against Baton Rouge CC. Tipoff is scheduled for 3:00 PM.
