GOODMAN, Miss. – The Hinds Community College Women's Basketball team picked up an impressive 84-80 season opening win in overtime behind a strong all-around effort on Friday.
Hinds outscored Holmes 21-9 in the opening quarter of the season to take the lead going into the second frame. Both teams held each other close in the second quarter, but the Lady Bulldogs outscored Holmes 17-15 in the second quarter to make the score 38-24 at halftime.
Holmes made the adjustments they need coming out of the halftime break as they outscored Hinds 25-17 in the third quarter to bring the score to 55-49 with Hinds still leading the game going into the final quarter of regulation. In the final quarter of regulation Holmes offense came alive and scored 21 points o Hinds' 15 points to send the game into overtime with a score of 70-70. After a back-and-forth affair for most of the overtime period Hinds came out on top out scoring Holmes 14-10 in overtime to grab the 84-80 season opening victory.
Lamaria Jones led the way for Hinds offensively recording 21 points on 6-10shooting from the field and went 9-10 at the charity stripe. Newcomer
Myla Harbor finished the contest with 15 points and was a perfect 7-7 from the field.
Myan Bartholemy and
Arianna Crimm each totaled eight points, while
Rodrianna Hall and
Amiyah Simpkins grabbed seven points apiece in the contest.
Judea Hastings and
Jaliah Pree scored four points apiece and rounding out the scoring for the Lady Bulldogs was
Hannah Moore and
Jaydia Morris who concluded the contest with two points
As a team, Hinds shot 48.8% from the floor while picking up two three pointers and went 12-15 from the charity stripe.
Hinds will return to action on Tuesday, November 5
th when they travel to Baton Rouge CC to compete in a non-conference matchup. Tipoff against the Lady Bears is schedule for 6 PM.
