SUMMIT, Miss. – The Hinds Community College Women's Basketball team posted a pair of victories at the SMCC Class on the campus of Southwest Mississippi Community College. With the wins, Hinds improved to 7-3 overall to begin the season.
In Thursday's opener, Hinds took down Holmes 77-76 behind three players in double figures. Hinds fell behind by two points at the end of the first quarter, but Hinds outscored Holmes 22-9 in the second quarter to take the 36-25 advantage at the halftime break. After a strong push by Holmes in the final two quarters, Hinds when on to take the game 77-76.
Amiyah Simpkins led Hinds with 17 points, while
Myan Bartholemy scored 15 points and shot 60% from the floor. Sophomore
Lamaria Jones had another great performance on the court scoring 13 points and grabbed 10 rebounds.
In Friday's game, Hinds once again handled business with a 58-51 overtime win against Coastal Alabama South at the SMCC Classic. Hinds fell behinds early in the contest as they were outscored 15-6 in the first quarter. The Lady Bulldogs scored 10 points in the second quarter and trailed 24-16 at the break. Hinds was outscored 14-13 in the third quarter and trailed 38-29 going in the final 10 minutes of regulation. Hinds had a strong fourth quarter to force the overtime period. In overtime, Hinds outscored CACC 11-4 to seal the 58-51 victory.
Lamaria Jones led Hinds with 15 points and finished the contest shooting 57% from the field and 58.3 % from the charity stipe.
Amiyah Simpkins tallied 10 points in the game and had the team-high eight rebounds in the win.
Hinds will return to action on Monday, December 9
th against Southern University-Shreveport (SUSLA) in Shreveport, La. Tipoff is set for 5:30 PM.
