RAYMOND, Miss. – The Hinds Community College Baseball team picked up two wins on Wednesday after defeating Copiah-Lincoln CC and Southwest Mississippi CC at Joe G. Moss Field. In the opening game, the Eagle defeated Co-Lin 7-5 and came back for the nightcap to grab the 7-2 victory over SMCC.
GAME ONE
The Eagles opened the first inning with four runs scored and then scored two runs in the second to take a 6-0 advantage after two innings. After a scoreless third inning, the visitors got on the scoreboard after they picked up a run.
Co-Lin scored an additional run in the fifth inning, but Hinds scored a run of their own in the bottom half of the inning to take a 7-2 lead. The Wolves chipped away at the lead by scoring one run in the sixth and two runs in the seventh, but Hinds took the game 7-5.
Thomas Marsala led the Eagles with a trio of hits in four plate appearances, while
Tyler Janos and
Diego Maddox grabbed two hits in the contest. Maddox also had a team-high two RBI.
Kaleb Lipscomb,
Zan Ellis,
Ashton Johnson, and
Brice Ainsworth all had a hit apiece in the victory.
Brady Boykin (1-0) got the start on the mind for Hinds and pitched 4.1 innings, gave up only two hits, and tallied eight strikeouts.
Alex McGarrh came in relief and close out the rest of the seven-inning contest.
GAME TWO
In the nightcap, the Bears got on the board first in the top of the first inning to take a quick 2-0 advantage after the first inning of play. The Eagles tied and took the lead in the bottom of the second as they scored four runs to give Hinds the 4-2 lead.
There was a pitcher's duel going on for the next three innings as neither team could scratch across a run. The Eagles' offense began to click to extend their lead to 7-2 in the bottom of the sixth inning. Southwest could not overcome the deficit in the seventh as the Eagles grabbed the sweep on the day and the 7-2 win.
Tyler Janos led the Eagles going 2-for-3 at the plate and drove in two runs for Hinds.
Ashton Johnson and
Diego Maddox also had two hits in the game. A trio of Eagles made up of
Kaleb Lipscomb,
Thomas Marsala, and
Brice Ainsworth each totaled a hot in the 7-2 victory.
Carson Reed (1-0) got the start on the mound for the Eagles and went five innings and struck out seven batters.
Braden Richardson got his first appearance on the mound for the Eagles and only gave up one hit across two innings of work.
UP NEXT
The Eagles will return to the field on Saturday with a game at 12 PM against Southeastern Iowa CC and a game at 6 PM against #10 East Central CC at Joe G. Moss Field.
